If the person who passed away is a retired or former federal civil service employee, you will need to notify the Office of Personnel Management, which may have been paying an annuity.

You can report the death at www.opm.gov/reportdeath or call 1-888-767-6738.

  • The phone lines are open from 7:30am to 5:00pm (Eastern Time).
  • It is a busy phone number so they encourage you to call early in the morning, or after 3pm, when the phone lines are less busy.
