Cancel or transfer memberships

After a death, you need to cancel any memberships to avoid additional charges, get refunds, and let people know. Sometimes though, you can just cancel the credit card, and let memberships lapse.

1) Find all memberships and account numbers that you want to transfer or cancel. Some common memberships to look for are:

  • Gyms
  • Sports / country clubs
  • Cultural organizations (concert series, theaters, museums)
  • Other organizations (charities, clubs, religious)

2) Call the organization and ask to transfer or cancel the memberships.

P.S. We wish we could help with this online, but it’s very local, so we haven’t covered the full U.S. yet. If you want help, you can sign up for our concierge service by clicking here.
