Body donation

Donating a loved one’s body is good for a number of reasons.

It can leave a lasting legacy for a loved one, helping studies that advance learning and research. Many donation spots are equipped to provide updates and closure on how the body is used. Moving the body is often free, and some services provide the return of cremated remains after a short time to allow for a separate funeral service.

However, a loved one’s wish to donate organs may come in conflict with body donation. (For more on organ donation, visit this link.)

Additionally, you may not be able to have a funeral with the body if you choose this option. Some programs return cremated remains, while others do not.

To find a place to donate a body, do a search for colleges in your area plus the terms “body donation.” For more information on body donation, Science Care offers an overview.
